Week 1: Introduction

My name is Taylor Peterson. I’ve lived in Oklahoma for roughly 8 years now and consider it to be my home state. I moved to Norman from Tulsa 4 years ago in May to continue my education and to be with my boyfriend. We met in high school and have been together for almost 6 ½ years. We have two adorable pets. Our cat Bella definitely loves to beat up on her younger dog brother Cobi. Although they fight quite a bit, they still have their loving moments. They definitely bring a lot of happiness to my life, and I couldn't imagine it without them now.
Currently, I have an Associates in Applied Science for an Accounting Associate, but am pursuing a Bachelor’s in Business Administration for accounting as well. This will be my sixth semester at OU, and so far I really like it here. As for my career, I just started a job as a tax intern for an accounting firm in Oklahoma City. Luckily they extended me to stay on for the spring, and I hope they will just keep me on for good. I really love it there and pretty much everything about it. The people are great, and it's nice to know that I always come home from work with a smile on my face.
I have a few options to occupy my free time, but I think my most favorite hobby would have to be playing Magic the Gathering. It’s a card game I started playing at the local comic book shop in August of 2013. It’s kind of like Pokemon or Yugio, but more for adults, and I think a little more complex. It’s a really fun game, and if you get a chance, you should definitely try it. Unfortunately the new set of cards is not very good, but hopefully it will get better.

  1. I can definitely relate to your relationship with Bella and Cobi. I don't know what I would do without my two puppies! Congrats on the internship!! I'm glad you love OU because it really is a great university.

  2. Your pets are beautiful. I had a rat when I was in high school. She was the love of my life! Animals have a special place in my heart. I know several people who are in the financial/accounting world. They seem very stable and enjoy what they do. It’s great the you found an internship that you like so much. I’ve been an intern for two and a half years now, and I love it. Good luck!

  3. Ooooh, that card game sounds really cool, Taylor! There is actually a student from this class from many years ago who has started his own company creating board games: isn't that cool? Here is the link: Foxtrot Games. He has done both games via a Kickstarter campaign to raise the money. Maybe for your Storybook in the class this semester, you could do a kind of project that is like a game, or maybe inspired by a game somehow...! :-)

  4. We have a surprising amount in common! My boyfriend and I are about to celebrate our 7 year anniversary in February (we met in 8th grade) and have two cats, Velma and Annie. Pets are such wonderful additions to the family. I've never heard of Magic the Gathering, but my boyfriend just taught me how to play Yugio a few months ago and it's really fun! It's so amazing that you've found a place to work that you enjoy. Congratulations!

  5. Oooh! Your dog is so cute! We also have a cat and dog combo at our house! My roommate just got the cat a couple weeks ago, and he is just not sure about the dog yet, haha. I think today they have maybe decided to call a truce, fingers crossed! Very cool sounding game also! My guy friends from home are really into comic books, so i've spent a lot of time at the comic book store. We've never played any of the games, but maybe I'll look into it now!

  6. Hey, Taylor! That’s really neat you already have an associates degree and that you’re getting to work as an intern at an accounting firm in OKC. Real world experience is not always easy to come by, but it is extremely beneficial so I’m really happy that worked out for you. Also, your dog and cat are so cute. I hope you have a great rest of your semester!

  7. Hi Taylor! How cute are your pets! How great that you are in a job that you love, crossing my fingers for you they keep you around, what a relief that would be! I'm currently on the job hunt and it's stressful so lucky for you to have that settled. I'm an Oklahomie too! I've been here my whole life! Good luck with the rest of school!

  8. Hey Taylor! I was born in Oklahoma (Sapulpa) and moved to Texas when I was like 6, but when I came back to Oklahoma for college it was like coming home. Part of this might be that I lived in Frisco, Texas which has become a sprawling city full of rich people and lots of shopping. Norman, in comparison, is so much more chill and actually has a sense of community which you just can't get in Frisco (it's just too big, we have 6 high schools). Also your fuzzy babies are so adorable! I am an animal lover and am pretty much obsessed with my cat. I've never played Magic the Gathering, but my neighbor/second mom is really into it. I hope your semester is going great!

  9. Hey Taylor!

I always love meeting someone who loves animals too! I have a cat as well named Toby and an Australian Shepherd named Raley. The picture you posted of your pets is super cute. That’s cool that you enjoy playing card games. Though I’ve never heard of the one you like, I really enjoy card games too. Phase 10 is one of my favorite card games. If you’ve never played it, I definitely recommend it!

  10. Hi Taylor it is nice to meet you. Congrats on your associates and your continued education here at OU. I will keep my fingers crossed that your job hires you on full time. I am not a cat person but I love dogs, for some reason they always crack me up over the silly little things they do, so I bet your pets keep you entertained. Well best of luck on the rest of the semester.

  11. Taylor, I can understand wanting to be with your boyfriend in Norman! My fiancé and I dated for three years in a long distance relationship. We finally live in the same state now, and it is glorious compared to living states apart. I hope all is well with your relationship, and you have a great rest of your semester at OU!

  12. What a cute dog and cat you have! Like I said on Brooke's intro since she's in our group this week also, that's awesome you found someone that you care about and that cares about you. Everyone needs someone like that! Business Administration is a great degree to have, my brother graduated with that and has had no trouble finding jobs! So good luck when you finally graduate getting your foot in some place and doing a job that you love and care about!

  13. Taylor!
I love how much you love animals! I used to have a dog but wanted to wait until I have a better housing situation until I get another. I have only been dating my boyfriend for 6 months, and I can't imagine 6 1/2 years! You must have a keeper! I hope you have enjoyed the class and finish it strong! Good luck with your career!

  14. I think it’s awesome that you consider Norman to be your home now! Moving out here for your boyfriend is also incredibly sweet and I think it’s great how long you guys have been together. It’s also great that you enjoy OU so much. I think it’s a great school and I’m so happy I decided to attend. I hope your semester was awesome!

  15. Wow! I can’t believe that I’m just now getting to your blog! I have to start out by saying that your pets are adorable! I laughed when you said that your cat bullies your dog because it gave a tragically funny mental image. Accounting? I’m definitely impressed! I know I do not have a mind for business at all. Good luck with the rest of your studies at OU!

  16. Taylor, congrats on furthering your education. I am graduating in May and can't even think about more schooling at this point. I thought it was funny how you said you are now almost considering Oklahoma to by your home state. Living somewhere for eight years is a long time! My parents also have a dog that bullies my sister's cat, which can be entertaining to watch. Good luck with grabbing that additional area of study at OU!
